Green really has had a moment in 2021.
Its popularity grew with the nation’s desire to embrace sustainability and nature during lockdowns. The colour gave us hope when days felt grey and the future uncertain. We all went outside more, walking more, breathing in trees. Green represented renewal, fertility, abundance and love.
The last (unverified, so, don’t hold us to this…) count of shades of green in the world is nearing 300. We’ve certainly had a few shades in the shop. Not acid green, though; a colour that Elle Decor predicted would take off in 2021, and perhaps it did inside the home, but we’re not quite ready to wear it. Nor avocado (a ‘70s favourite). But we did see emerald, forest, sage, olive, mint (popular in the ‘50s)…
Because it’s a secondary colour, made up of blue and yellow, it’s a colour that offers a broad range of layering and accessorising opportunities.
While we as a human race go greener in 2022 one thing is certain, colour is the new black!
