Last week got busy!! Shoppers are out in force. Oxford Street is rammed, even the side roads are rammed, you can’t escape being hit by bags or bikes.
Think we’ll sit out central London and stay put, right here in the village…
Everyone wants a better world (everyone we know), so here are 7 tips to each help achieve one in our own tiny way.
Light up your tree!!!
If it’s not too late, go for LED or solar-powered lights this year. If the entire nation used LED lights we could save more than £11 million and 29,000 tonnes of CO2 collectively, over the 12 days of Christmas alone. And use up to 80% less energy.
Be cool for yule!!!
Look hip among the youth by buying sustainable material gifts, bonus points if they’re made from recycled or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified materials. But do avoid single plastics or anything that can’t be recycled.
Get a smart metre!!!
If we all did, 11% of the government’s net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050 would be satisfied in one fell swoop. While saving ourselves up to £200 a year each in the process.
Wave away gift-wrap!!!
Britons throw away enough wrapping paper to circle the globe 9 times. Yikes! Bring back brown paper and string. Or, use gift bags (ours are nice), or old comics and newspapers. If you prefer gift wrap, buy FSC/PEFC legally logged, certified versions. Oh and use ribbons, tape can’t be recycled.
Be crackers!!!
DIY crackers, recyclable, crafty and creative. We got ours here.
Sip to save seas!!!
Sea Change’s fizz is packaged using sustainable forest paper, made in part from grape waste. With every bottle of bubbles sold, the company donates to ocean and marine conservation charities. They’ve given €300,000+ to help battle the 8million-and-counting tonnes of plastic thrown into oceans each year, a horrifying figure that could well increase tenfold by 2025. Buy here.
Slip into something sustainable!!!
Made out of organic wool or cotton (when used right, these are two of the most sustainable materials you can buy) or recycled materials, and watch the room swoon over your swag. Whatever you do, avoid sequins, there just are no biodegradable versions therefore no excuses. Perhaps opt for bright eco-friendly accessories, instead 🙂
